Why shade the roof at all

The panel that takes the most sun

A panoramic roof is often larger than the windscreen and it faces the sun for the whole trip. A reflective core turns that heat back at the glass instead of letting it radiate down from the headliner — which is what you feel in the back seats, and what the air-conditioning spends its day fighting.

It protects the factory blind

The thin factory sunroof blind sits under the hottest glass on the car, which is why it is usually the first trim to fade, peel or warp. This panel goes in front of it and takes that load instead.

In and out without tools

It fits into the roof opening without removing trim or any part of the car, and lifts out by hand when you want the glass clear again. Nothing is glued, drilled or tinted.

One, two or four panels — what the number means

Roof glass is one panel on some cars and a run of four on others, and the crossbars divide it differently again, so a set is cut to the car rather than sold as a standard kit.

1 panel
A single sliding sunroof over the front seats — the common fit on sedans and hatches.

Questions about roof shades

Is this the same thing as your window shades?

No — different product, different job. The window shades are a black mesh that filters light and lets you see out. A roof panel is solid: a reflective foil and air-cushion core around 8 mm thick with a protective facing, built to stop heat radiating down from above rather than to see through.

How do I know how many panels my car needs?

Each product here states the panel count for that exact model and year range, taken from the fitment sheet the panels are cut from. You don't measure anything — pick your car and the right number of panels comes with it.

Will it work if my car already has a factory sunroof blind?

Yes, and it does that blind a favour. The factory blind is thin and sits under the hottest glass on the car, so it is usually the first piece of trim to fade or peel. The panel sits in front of it and takes the sun first.

Can I still open the sunroof?

Take the panel out first. It is held in place rather than fixed, so it comes out by hand in a few seconds and stores flat.

Do I need the window shades as well?

They're separate products and either works on its own. The roof and the side windows are the two biggest sources of cabin heat, so most people who shade one eventually shade the other.
